Fort Wayne's only theater dedicated to showcasing film as an art form was founded in 1976 after the city's last art house lost its lease. Their first screening was Howard Hawks' "The Big Sleep"—directed by a Hoosier born just down the road in Goshen. After years as an itinerant organization, Cinema Center found a permanent home in 1991 and now operates a 126-seat theater with digital projection and Dolby sound.
